Meet the Cyberhive Ambassador Regis Cazenave!
As General Manager Europe at S2 Grupo, Regis drives international growth and helps clients navigate digital security challenges. A leader in Europe's cybersecurity ecosystem, he also holds advisory roles at ECSO, TNO, and ITEA. Regis believes The Cyberhive has a unique opportunity to connect people, ideas, and initiatives across Europe — amplifying innovation, supporting collaboration, and building a secure, sovereign digital future.
Could you briefly describe your career path and current position?
I’m currently General Manager Europe at S2GRUPO, a leading European specialist in cybersecurity and cyber intelligence. I’m responsible for our international growth and helping our clients navigate complex digital transformation and security challenges.
Alongside this role, I’m involved in several advisory positions to support innovation and collaboration in cybersecurity:
- Chair of the SME2Market Workstream at ECSO (European Cyber Security Organisation) – where I focus on helping European cybersecurity start-ups and SMEs grow and expand internationally.
- Advisor to the Cyber Sounding Board of TNO (Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research) – supporting research that responds to real-world industry needs.
- Vice-Chair of ITEA (Eureka RD&I Cluster on Digital Innovation) – promoting collaborative innovation projects between companies and research organisations across Europe.
In the past, I was President of the Management Board at ReliaSol, where I led the company’s international expansion in AI-driven predictive maintenance. Before that, I held leadership roles in major multinational companies including Belden, Sulzer, and Schneider Electric, covering Europe and Asia.
Why did S2GRUPO become a member of ECSO?
S2GRUPO is a founding member of ECSO because we believe in the power of collaboration to strengthen Europe’s cybersecurity capabilities. ECSO is an important platform that brings together public and private stakeholders to help build a resilient, secure, and digitally autonomous Europe. As a pure cybersecurity player specialized in both IT and OT security, we are proud to contribute our expertise to this mission. We also see ECSO as a strategic enabler to promote sovereign European technologies and strengthen cross-border cooperation in critical sectors.
What would you like to tackle in ECSO to further develop the European security landscape?
At S2GRUPO, we are committed to helping Europe develop the sovereign and specialized capabilities it needs to protect its essential services and infrastructures.
Our approach is based on three pillars:
- End-to-end IT and OT cybersecurity solutions - covering prevention, detection, response, recovery, and forensic investigation.
- Proprietary technology, developed by our own R&D team - ensuring full control, transparency, and compliance with EU regulations.
- A focus on critical sectors, like energy, transport, healthcare, and public services - where cybersecurity failures can have systemic consequences.
We want to ensure that European companies and governments are equipped to defend against persistent, hybrid, and sophisticated threats, now and in the future.
What are the major challenges we will have to face in the field of cybersecurity in the coming years?
Europe is facing a sharp increase in cyber threats, fueled by three key trends:
- Rapid digitalisation of our economy and society
- Rising geopolitical tensions
- The growing sophistication of cybercriminal networks
These are not only technical challenges – they are strategic, requiring long-term vision, investment, and coordination at scale.
These challenges require not only strong technical solutions, but also closer collaboration across borders and a shared vision for Europe’s digital future.
What does digital sovereignty actually mean in concrete terms and what do you think is necessary to achieve it?
Digital sovereignty means that Europe has the freedom and capacity to make its own decisions in the digital space – without over-relying on non-European technologies or providers.
To achieve it, we need to:
- Invest in European cybersecurity companies and solutions
- Promote open standards and interoperability
- Strengthen our R&D capabilities
- Encourage public-private partnerships across the EU
Sovereignty doesn’t mean isolation – it means strategic autonomy and control over technologies that are critical to our economic and democratic resilience.
How does dependence on non-European tech providers threaten Europe's cybersecurity?
When critical infrastructure depends on foreign technologies, it creates risks – especially if those providers are subject to different legal frameworks or political pressures.
This can affect our ability to detect, prevent, or respond to cyber incidents. It also limits transparency and accountability, which are essential in security matters.
This dependency undermines Europe’s ability to act independently in times of crisis. By strengthening Europe’s own tech ecosystem, we reduce these risks and increase our resilience.
What decisive steps do you see for the coming months and what does this mean for the European security landscape?
In the coming months, I see several key steps:
- Stronger European cooperation on cybersecurity regulation and threat intelligence
- Increased public investment in trusted European solutions
- A growing push for supply chain security, especially in critical sectors
But these actions must be accelerated and supported by long-term industrial policy.
These developments are promising – but we need to move fast and stay united. Cyber threats evolve quickly, and Europe must keep pace if it wants to stay safe and competitive.
What role do you think that Cyberhive should play in achieving European strategic autonomy?
Cyberhive has a unique opportunity to connect people, ideas, and initiatives across Europe. It can play a key role in:
- Showcasing European innovation and expertise
- Supporting collaboration between start-ups, researchers, and policymakers
- Helping young companies scale their impact and find new markets
Cyberhive can also serve as a trusted hub for visibility, matchmaking, and policy alignment within the European cybersecurity ecosystem.
By amplifying Europe’s cybersecurity ecosystem, Cyberhive can help us build the digital future we want – secure, inclusive, and sovereign.
